ABOUT ME

I'm a Norwegian classical painter, born in 1999. Living and working in rural Telemark, I have always felt a close connection to nature. The forests, calm fields and lakes serve as inspiration for my landscapes.

I find there is something special about painting portraits, and the human figure in general. Skin tones, facial expressions and capturing the likeness, or even better, the essence of the model, is all deeply fascinating to me.

Through blending paint, which is pigment made from earth, I can create new life on the canvas. That is poetic to me.

Materials and craft

Much of my inspiration and guidance comes from 17th century masters, like Rembrandt and Caravaggio. Therefore it was natural for me to explore and incorporate the traditional craft and materials of these golden age painters.

I'm especially intrigued by their use of earth colors, and the unusual, melted impasto qualities associated with Rembrandt. I have spent a lot of time trying to get to the bottom of why older paintings, and older paint, looks fundamentally different from what is used today.

Through this investigation, I have come to understand many of the technical aspects which is considered "secrets" of the old masters. I am proud of this knowledge, and I use it in my paintings.
